Burlington Kiwanis Soccer – Going Online

The Burlington Kiwanis Club is excited that it will be incorporating 2012 Fall Soccer functionality into its website that was launched last year, www.burlingtonkiwanisclub.com. This will not only assist organizers of the league but also be a gateway for players and parents to obtain any information they need on the internet regarding soccer. Kiwanis members Bob Prailes and Bernard Petersen have been working together on this project. Features will include:

The goal is to have everything functional by June 1st.

Emily Nadolski shares her “Trip of a Lifetime” with the Burlington Kiwanis

Emily Nadolski came to the Burlington Kiwanis Club’s Meeting to talk about what she called a trip of a lifetime on Monday April 30th. Emily, who is a 19 year old BHS graduate, started her trip in Los Angeles with mission training. In LA, they helped homeless people in the area for three months. From LA, she flew to Morroco, South Africa and then onto Nepal, India where the real journey began. In Nepal, she worked in a home for older women suffering from dimentia and numerous other disabilities, along with common street people. She soon found that “love makes the world go around”. These women are treated very poorly by their own people. In the Hindu culture, she explained they believe that if you have a disabilityor deformity it is because you were bad in a previous life. In this culture, women are treated as a class lower than cows. Disabled children are often abandoned and put into homes. Emily also spent time in a leprosy colony, which are considered the lowest of the low. She found these people are so kind mainly because they just want to be accepted. Even though she was there to help them, they wanted instead to do things for her. She said coming home gave her a greater appreciation for everything she has. Emily shared a video of her trip with a view of a country that is full of beauty but also has a dark side with the treatment of their own people. Emily was accompanied by her mother Jaci Nadolski, who must be a very proud parent.

Himebauch Farm Receives Heritage Award at Farm City Night

Farm City Night was held on Monday March 12 at the Cotton Exchange. There was a great turn out for the event and many of the farmers thanked the club for the evening. The keynote speaker was the Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. This years Heritage Farm winner was the Himebauch Farm from Waterford, WI. The farm is a 4th generation farm dating back to 1843. Today Arnold and Julie Himebauch and there sons Greg(LuAnn) and Dale(Kathy) and grandsons Benjamin and Ryan run 2500 acres of crop farming and steer production. This was the 6th year of the award and went to another will deserving farm.

Brent Warren from Scherrer Construction voted in as new member

10/21/11 Thank you received from the Special Olympics

The Burlington Kiwanis Club received a thank you letter from Donn McKuster of the Special Olympics for the $500 check presented to her organization.

Present when the was given were athletes, Jared and Randy. This money will cover their busing for the entire bowling season.

Burlington Kiwanis Club Launching New Website

Do you feel the need to make a difference in your community? I hope you answered “yes” and contact us to become part of something special. I joined this club because I saw many of the things they did for the children of the community when I was coaching youth sports in the Burlington area. It seemed that whatever I was involved in with my kids and the groups that they belonged to, that whenever there was a short fall and something was needed the Kiwanis Club of Burlington stepped in and provided the needed support. I knew that this was the club I one day would join. I am now very proud to be its President and would welcome anyone interested in becoming a member to contact us so you can start enjoying the satisfaction that you will receive every time you see the face of someone we make a difference for.
